Through the Lens.....
Nature. A figure in environment. This is my inspiration. These images, in part or in whole, often find themselves in my paintings. My camera is my traveling sketchbook and personal way of viewing and recording visuals for further exploration. I look for light, texture, pattern, mood, atmosphere. Details, vistas, anything that demands a moment of attention and more often than not, awe, will find it's way into my reference file! While seeing through the lens was primarily to spark memory, it has also sparked a keen interest and appreciation for making art with the camera itself. Sometimes a snapshot to capture a light reference results in an image that is strong in visual interest or mood and can be appreciated and enjoyed for its own value.
“It is important to express oneself...provided the feelings are real and are taken from your own experience.” Berthe Morisot

“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.”
Pablo Picasso
